Benjamin W. Powers
Benjamin W. Powers is a fourth-generation Phoenician and graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History.
After six years as an investment advisor, he moved to the nonprofit sector where he successfully developed and implemented fundraising strategies for educational, social service and healthcare development programs through capital and endowment campaigns, major gift solicitation, grant writing, direct mail, annual funds, special events and deferred giving.
During his five-year tenure at the Orme School as Director of Summer Programs and Director of Development, the endowment increased from $1.4 million to $5 million and annual giving levels increased by 40 percent.
Prior to joining Young & Company, Ben was the Director of Gift and Estate Planning for the John C. Lincoln Health Foundation where he was instrumental in the completion of a $4 million children's endowment campaign and the implementation of a successful and ongoing planned giving program.
Ben has conducted numerous development studies for clients including St. Joseph's Hospital and Scottsdale Cultural Council. He has also provided board development expertise and counsel for the Sun Angel Foundation and the Center against Sexual Abuse and Violence. Ben directed the successful $3.5 million campaign to renovate and restore Camp Fire's Camp Wamatochick near Prescott and a $5.2 million campaign for Bourgade Catholic High School.
He makes presentations to professional and civic groups on Arizona history and charitable estate planning. He is a member of the Arizona Planned Giving Roundtable and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Ben has been a professional musician since high school, and spent five years as a desert mountain survival instructor. He is a certified horse pack and trail overnight guide. Ben and his wife Joan have two children, James and Sarah.
